What Vitaspan Is

Vitaspan is an independent editorial website dedicated to wellness research for adults 50 and older. We cover dietary supplements, nutrition, healthy aging, and active living — with an emphasis on what the research actually shows rather than what marketing copy claims.

Our goal is simple: give readers a clear, honest, and appropriately skeptical perspective on supplements and wellness topics so they can make better-informed decisions. We do not promote products uncritically, and we do not write content designed to create false urgency or exploit health anxieties. We try to write the kind of content we would want to read ourselves.

About the Author

Vitaspan is written and edited by Carol Whitfield. Carol spent 24 years working as a registered nurse in clinical settings before transitioning to wellness writing. Her background gives her a practical, evidence-grounded perspective on supplements and health claims — one shaped by years of watching patients navigate the gap between what supplements promise and what they deliver.

Carol started Vitaspan because she found that most supplement review content online fell into one of two categories: uncritical promotional writing dressed up as review, or reflexively dismissive skepticism that failed to engage with the genuine research that exists in this space. She wanted to do something more useful: take the research seriously, be honest about its limitations, and give readers the kind of clear analysis that a knowledgeable friend with medical training might offer.

Carol is based in Portland, Oregon. She can be reached at [email protected].

Our Editorial Standards

Every article on Vitaspan is written or reviewed by Carol Whitfield. We do not publish articles without substantive engagement with the available research on the topic. We acknowledge uncertainty where uncertainty exists, and we do not make claims that the evidence does not support.

We update articles when the research landscape changes or when we identify errors in our previous analysis. If you notice something on our site that appears to be factually incorrect, please contact us at [email protected].

Affiliate Disclosure

Vitaspan participates in affiliate programs. This means that when you click on links on our site and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission — at no additional cost to you. This compensation helps support the time and resources required to research and write the content on this site.

Our affiliate relationships do not determine which products we cover or how we evaluate them. We do not write favorable reviews because of affiliate relationships, and we do not avoid covering products negatively because of commercial considerations. Our editorial opinions are independent.

Pages that contain affiliate links are clearly labeled with an affiliate disclosure notice at the top of the article.
